The Psychology of Healing: Integrating Prophetic Compassion with Modern Therapeutic Practice
Mohammed Husni Karattil, Darul Huda Islamic University

The profound intersection between Prophetic compassion as reflected in Islamic tradition and contemporary therapeutic practices in psychology. Drawing from Prophetic traditions (Hadith), the study highlights how foundational principles such as patience (sabr), gratitude (shukr), optimism, and reliance on social support networks align with and enrich modern mental health care. Central to Prophetic guidance is the holistic approach to well-being, incorporating spiritual, emotional, and social dimensions, where the remembrance of God and community empathy are pivotal for achieving inner peace and resilience. The traditions of Prophet Muhammad emphasise practical coping mechanisms, supplication, healthy emotional expression, positive reframing, and mutual care, which parallel interventions in cognitive-behavioural therapy, mindfulness, and positive psychology. Moreover, these teachings support integrating faith-based interventions to improve mental health outcomes, particularly among Muslim clients, by offering culturally and spiritually congruent models of care. The study proposes a framework where Prophetic compassion rooted in empathy, hope, and shared responsibility serves as a therapeutic resource for strengthening emotional resilience and fulfilling the unmet spiritual needs often found in conventional therapy. Incorporating Prophetic values into clinical settings encourages a balanced strategy, combining spiritual practices with professional care, thereby addressing mental health challenges comprehensively. This integrative model not only benefits Muslim populations seeking culturally relevant interventions but also contributes to the evolving global discourse on holistic wellness by fostering a synergy between faith-driven compassion and evidence-based psychological healing.
