We invite clinicians, scholars, and educators to join us for the optional third day of the 2025 CMR at Loma Linda University Health (LLUH). This day presents a unique opportunity to engage with leaders, clinicians, and educators in a faith-based healthcare environment, addressing the challenges of serving underserved communities while navigating the complexities of a market-driven healthcare system.
Founded in 1905 by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, LLUH is a faith-based health sciences university and healthcare organization located in Southern California’s Inland Empire (IE). The IE spans 27,000 square miles and is home to 4.6 million residents. It presents stark contrasts when compared to its wealthier neighboring areas, such as Los Angeles and Orange counties. The IE faces challenges including higher unemployment, greater reliance on public assistance, higher poverty rates, and lower educational attainment. Regarding overall health, residents are more likely to report fair to poor health and have significantly higher obesity rates. The region’s heavy dependence on logistics and warehousing has also resulted in air quality that ranks among the worst in the nation. These factors highlight the substantial disparities in social determinants of health that affect IE communities.
At LLUH, our mission is to promote Whole-Person Care through practice, education, and research. As a faith-based institution, we navigate the challenges of delivering compassionate care within a strained healthcare system while serving a community significantly affected by social and economic disparities. We grapple with questions such as: How can a healthcare system meet its community’s needs without exhausting clinicians? What role should faith-based institutions play in addressing mission drift and financial constraints? How can we best educate future clinicians to thrive in a consumer-driven system while remaining true to their values? And how can faith provide the resources to support clinicians and confront the health disparities we face?
On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, LLUH invites you to an optional third conference day to explore these critical questions and develop actionable solutions. Through facilitated conversations, workshops, and experiential learning, we will deepen professional and personal connections. We will collaborate with others in faith-based healthcare to imagine how institutions like ours can better serve communities and address health disparities. Join us for this transformative conversation and help shape the future of healthcare in mission-driven settings.
The deadline for registration is March 6, 2025. Please fill out this form to register.
Note: Ontario International Airport is a Southern California regional airport that hosts many major airlines. It is approximately 20 miles from LLUH. Attendees may consider flying out of Ontario International Airport on Wednesday after the conference ends at 3:00 pm.
