"DOYA": The Arena of Spiritual Music, Glossolalia and Metaphysical Manifestations

Glossolalia or speaking in tongues during trance can be traced in different regions, cultures and religion of the world. The new scientific evidence of glossolalic’s not speaking from Brocas area of brain has resulted in new neurophysiologic debates of sprit and spirituality. The mysticism of Islam is deeply rooted in Pakistan. Though the Glossolalia is not a common phenomenon in Islamic spirituality, yet it can be traced in certain Pushtoon tribes of Kurram Agency and Orakzai Agency in Pakistan.
The community called “Mian Mureedan” is the followers of a famous saint Mir Anwar Shah Sahib of 17th century. They all show their deep respect and extreme love for the Imam Hussein the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by holding gatherings at specific sacred place called “Doya”. The spiritual music and rhymes evokes Glossolalia in otherwise normal men. The Glossolalics and other men join a trance in a state of ecstasy which is followed by supernatural Metaphysical manifestations that cannot be understood by physiology and health,
Methods
It is a qualitative work including video presentation in one of the area of Kurram agency Parachinar in which of ordinary people ranging from children to the old men from different socioeconomically and educational strata are involved in Trance, Glossolalia and supernatural acts. During the state of ecstasy they are involved in Eating Burning coal and fire, sharing the burning coals in their ordinary cotton clothes which do not show any evidence of burns. They eat, chew and swallow pieces of broken glasses, gun powders and kerosene oil. This phenomenal qualitative work will study the perception of some of the leading clerics, the spiritual leaders and people who are practically involved in trance, Glossolalia and metaphysical acts.
Result
The results on perceptions by using N-Vivo soft ware showed the positive relations of connectivity spiritual music with higher center and thus Spirit. The post trance medical examination showed no evidence of burns in oral cavity , hands, feet. And None of the responders showed any corrosive burns of stomach and small intestine. All of the respondents in post trance period were found completely oriented in time and space.
Conclusion:
Although the medical science is yet to explain these metaphysical spiritual manifestations but the connectivity of soul with high Spirit can be achieved by spiritual music and Love for revered figures in Islam.
