"And You Shall Guard Your Souls" - Contemporary Responsa on Tobacco, Alcohol, and Cannabis Use (Jewish Bioethics Beit Midrash)
Noam Stadlan, MD, Endeavor Healthcare, Evanston, and Department of Neurosurgery University of Chicago
Jonathan Weinkle, MD, FAAP, FACP, University of Pittsburgh, and Squirrel Hill Health Center, Pittsburgh

The Beit Midrash ("House of Study") has been the central institution of Jewish learning for the last 2000 years, where urgent issues are discussed and debated in detail from multiple, often surprising, points of view.  Participants engage in chavruta (study in pairs) learning, which prizes close reading and careful understanding of the sources and concepts.  Join Drs. Noam Stadlan and Jonathan Weinkle as we explore modern Jewish legal opinions from multiple denominations on whether it is permissible to use tobacco, alcohol, and cannabis products for pleasure or medicinal purposes, in which settings, and in which forms.
